While September carries all the good POST-SUMMER FEELINGS and BACK TO SCHOOL VIBES, October, I feel, is really and truly where it's at. I'm looking forward to CRISP WEATHER and SUEDE and all sorts of ridiculous layering possibilities; see also: HALLOWEEN.
This month's newsletter features three fantastic Halloween DIYs from Lyle Style blogger Cheralee Lyle; her fun and fashion-y approach to both clothing and lifestyle in the District is super endearing - and her DIYS and styling + Caroline Lacey's photography made for some pretty amazing Halloween editorial steez.
OH, AND SPEAKING OF HALLOWEEN - if your favorite aspect of (the very best) holiday is scary movies/innate creepiness/etc etc, you'll probably enjoy the C V L T spread. It's a behind the scenes look at a Panda Head Mag: Issue 7 feature that involves the woods, a commune sensibility, and a sense of humor - all will be explained in November, when Issue 7 is slated to COME ALIVE.
As always, you can navigate this crazy train by using the links below each post, or you can view the whole thing at once by clicking that "October Newsletter" tab up there. No, not there. Up a little. THERE.
ENJOY YOUR OCTOBER, and may all my your OUR dreams of an adult-sized skeleton costume come true.

What you need: String of fake flowers, acrylic paint, paintbrush, tape & glue
Step 1: In a bowl/container mix your desired color for the flowers and dilute with half a cup of water. You can add more paint or more water to get the color/effect you desire.
Step 2: Remove flowers from fake stem and one by one dip them, petals first, in the bowl of diluted paint. Swish them around gently to make sure all petals are covered in paint.
Step 3: Leave flowers to dry.
Step 4: When completely, dry reattach flowers to stem. Add a little glue to secure them if they feel loose.
Step 5: Wrap string of flowers to form a garland, check that it is the right size to sit comfortably on your head.
Step 6: Wrap a pieces of clear tape at multiple points to hold garland together securely. Try to wrap tape under leaves or petals so it can't be seen. Add more tape or glue until your flower crown sits comfortably and securely on your head.

What you need: Pair of opaque black tights, white acrylic paint and a paint brush.
Step 1: For easy painting put the tights on yourself or on a friend, and plan where leg and knee bones will go. Start with the knee and paint a circle, then paint upper leg bones and lower leg bones. You may need to do 2 layers to get a solid look.
Step 2: Wait for paint to dry, do not remove tights before paint is completely dry! When dry, gently remove tights so the paint does not crack. Or just do this DIY before you go out on Halloween, easy!

What you need: A headband, a Sharpie, superglue and 2 spike studs
Step 1: Mark with a sharpie where you want your horns to go on the headband. Made sure they at equal points. Then apply superglue to where you made the Sharpie mark. Make sure you put enough glue to hold the spike, but not too much that it will run all over and make a sticky mess. Then stick the spike on the glue and hold it in place while the glue dries. (A tip is to wait 30 seconds for the glue to dry a bit before you put the spike on, so it grips on better) Wait a good few minutes while you hold the spike in place. Rather safe than sorry!
And that's it! Really quick and easy, Be careful with your horns and make sure you store them in a safe place until that Halloween party so they do not break.
